Special Undergraduate Research on the Environment

The Environmental Council provides guidance, assistance and resources to students wishing to explore their personal environmental interests, from the study of microbes in hot springs to learning about global climate change, environmental ethics or campus sustainability. Selected students receive up to $2,000 in grant money, work with a faculty advisor, and use of state of the art laboratories and research facilities.

SURE Grant Eligibility
- Be enrolled full-time in any undergraduate degree program at the University of Illinois,
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0
or higher,
- Have endorsement and guidance for the project from a faculty member.
SURE Grant Requirements
- Work closely with an endorsing faculty mentor,
- Provide short one-page quarterly reports to the
Environmental Council,
- Prepare a poster or other suitable presentation for display at the annual campus environmental conference- Environmental Horizons,
- Submit a final report at the end of the project,
- Acknowledge the Council's support in any publications, scholarly work, or project based presentations.
