Student ResourcesFinding a Major: Culture and Society To many, today's environmental problems are really problems of culture and society. People's values, aspirations and desires determine their behavior. And it is behavior, or what we actually do, that harms the environment. However, just as people influence the environment, the environment also plays a role in how culture has developed over time - where cities are located, which food crops are raised and how we view the natural world. Undeniably, nature and culture are linked. Faculty and students in these departments are studying the motives and impacts of culture and society on the environment.
